3 Must-Watch Movies About Music
Music is a central part of our lives and of that, there is no doubt. We find ourselves drawn not only to the instruments but also to those who play them. Some films do an excellent job at capturing both these elements in visually stunning ways that, while providing an excellent viewing experience, make us appreciate music even more. Down below we will be talking about 3 must-watch music films that are absolutely worth your time.
No such list is complete without mention of Whiplash (2014). An excellent and stunning narrative about a musician trying desperately to attain greatness, Whiplash demonstrates a beautiful and scary chemistry between J.K. Simmons’ hauntingly demanding music teacher and Miles Teller’s aspiring drummer. It is a movie that is made great both by virtue of how good the music scenes are and also how well the characters carry themselves. There is a palpable sense of tension in every scene as each character single-mindedly focuses on their dream, music, and greatness, which makes Whiplash a must-watch!
Next up we have A Star is Born (2018), a film starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. His directorial debut shows Cooper’s character, an alcoholic musician in his twilight years, assisting the budding star that is Lady Gaga’s Ally – and falling in love with her in the process. A Star is both a love story and a character study of musicians in the backdrop of the cutthroat and demanding music industry. Most of its charm, however, is found in its soundtrack which won 4 Grammy awards!

Lastly, we have Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), a biopic of Freddie Mercury, the lead singer for Queen. Starring Rami Malek, the film does an excellent job exploring the life of Mercury, both as a beloved public figure and a flawed private individual. Where Bohemian Rhapsody really shines, however, is the reconstruction of Queen’s live performances which are an absolute treat to watch for fans and newcomers alike!
