Couples Are Now Getting Tattoos Instead of Wedding Rings

Feb 11, 2020 ByAndrew Parker

If you haven’t already noticed, tattoos are becoming more common, even fashionable and trendy. Millennials are sporting small tattoos and even mom is getting on board with matching tats with their kids. Tattoos have come a long way, so much so that now couples are starting to choose tattoos instead of a traditional wedding ring. Obviously a personal decision, but there are a lot of positive reasons as to why couples are hopping on the nontraditional wagon. For one, tattoos are permanent and that means they also don’t have to worry about losing their ring! Newlyweds are serious about taking their commitment a step further with the permanency of a tattoo. You need to look no further than your Instagram feed to see just how fast this trend is catching. It certainly is one cool way to display your unwavering love and dedication to your partner!

A lot of couples look to nontraditional ways to express their love and commitment to their partner. After all, there isn’t just a one-fits-all type of wedding, right? This is 2020! People are feeling freer to decide how they want to express themselves through more than just the choice of gold or silver. Most of the tattoos are dainty with either a single line, an eternity symbol, or something even more unique.¬† For example, Beyonc√© had Roman numerals inked onto her ring finger. Adam Levine’s wife, Behati Prinsloo, got three dots tattooed onto her ring finger. Other celebrities who have tattoos in place of a wedding ring include Kristen Bell’s husband, Dax Shepard. He has a bell-shaped tattoo with the initials of their daughter. According to the Jewelers of America trade association, gold wedding bands typically cost anywhere from $300 to $700. So for couples looking to watch their budget, tattoos can possibly cost less than traditional jewelry. But it is important to keep in mind that inked rings do fade with time.
