Famous Architects Through History
The world of architecture is full of incredible talent, with a rich and varied history that stretches back thousands of years. From the step pyramids of ancient Egypt to more modern art-deco masterpieces, nobody can deny the power and grace found in great architecture throughout time. But when it comes to defining who truly stands out above the rest as one of the most famous architects in the world, there are few better examples. Here are some world-famous architects known for their work. Frank Lloyd Wright was one of the most famous and influential architects of the 20th century. Born on June 8, 1867, he is best known for his Prairie-style homes designed to fit into the natural landscape. One of Frank Lloyd Wright’s most famous works is the Fallingwater House built over a waterfall in Pennsylvania. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is another UNESCO World Heritage masterpiece of form and function.
Frank Gehry is a Canadian-American contemporary architect known for his unique and often controversial designs. His most famous buildings are the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. As a pioneer of deconstructivism, he redefined traditional forms and shapes. Gehry’s buildings create a sense of movement. A great example is Dancing House, also known as Fred and Ginger. This Prague monument was designed in collaboration with Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunic.

Oscar Niemeyer is one of the world’s most famous architects known for his modern and minimalistic architecture. Born in Brazil, he designed much of Brasilia, which has become a World Heritage Site. The Church of St. Francis of Assisi has a free-form interior space with no walls or visible supporting structures separating it from the surrounding square. The main dome is entirely stained glass and painted bright blue on the outside. His other architectural works include the Cathedral of Brasilia, the Auditorium of Oscar Niemeyer in Ravello, Italy, and the Casino da Madeira in Funchal.
