Apr 10, 2022 ByLaura Lee

We have all struggled with stress, anxiety, and panic at certain times in our lives. Some people experience it more than the rest. However, we all have been victims of poor mental health. This article will focus on how we can improve our mental health and keep a check on it before it deteriorates. Many people do not realize the importance of a healthy brain and then regret it later in their lives.

  1. Healthy Heart

Keeping the brain healthy means keeping all the organs dependent on it in check, which are essentially all organs. The most important of these is the heart. A Swedish study was done on 300,000 women and it was concluded that women who had a healthy lifestyle, did not smoke, and kept their BMI below 25 were very less likely to suffer from a stroke. Furthermore, Elise Cocobolo, an associate neuropsychologist explains this, “High blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, smoking, and diabetes all increase the risk for developing neurodegenerative diseases by impeding blood flow to the brain.”

  1. Ensure a healthy diet

Make sure that your diet consists of healthy nutrients e.g., omega 3, vitamins, and minerals. Researchers also recommend having a healthy diet and keeping a check on all nutrient intake. Overdosing on some nutrients can also potentially lead to many harmful side effects which can negatively affect mental health. One should also ensure that they limit their caffeine intake otherwise mental health is adversely affected. Doctors recommend only one to two cups of caffeine every day.

  1. Develop an interest in socializing

The brain is extremely active while socializing as the blood flows to the brain. The brain works to prepare a response for every situation. This means that it is working at its full capacity. Furthermore, socializing also avoid depression. When you are with people you are more likely to live in the moment rather than think about unimportant stuff.
