Kraft’s mac ‘n’ cheese has long been a staple of American kids’ diets. The mere smell of it takes us back to those carefree days of our childhood. What could then be more perfect than the combining of the cheesy dish with ice cream, every child’s favorite dessert? While your initial reaction may not be immediate excitement at the prospect of cheese and pasta flavored ice cream and may lean more to the side of revulsion, I would ask you to bear in mind that cheesy ice creams are all the rage elsewhere in the world and have been for a long time. Cheese has been a common favorite in places such as Mexico and the Philippines and it’s about time that the citizens of North America get a taste.

The 14th of July is National Macaroni and Cheese Day and to celebrate the occasion Kraft has chosen to partner with the ice cream aficionados of Van Leeuwen to create their own mac ‘n’ cheese flavored milky dessert. Met with a majority of positive reviews, the ice cream has quickly become a favorite for many cheese fans across the continent, with some saying that their only complaint is that there wasn’t an option to have some parmesan grated on top for an extra zing of cheese.
While the flavor may be met with suspicion from many, I would add that there is a strong tradition of cheesy desserts in the form of cheesecakes, red velvet cakes, and cheese blintzes, to name just a few, of the many iterations of sweetness that cheese is known to come in. All that can be said is it can’t hurt to try unless of course you’re lactose intolerant and then this just might be your worst nightmare come to life.
