If this year has taught us anything, it’s that the world is full of surprises, and nature can throw anything at us at any given moment. From fires to hurricanes, we’ve truly seen it all. However, we don’t often stop and think about how crazy nature is on a day to day basis. Here are some photos of crazy things that people stumbled upon that show us the breathtaking power of nature.
tHIS lava pit looks like it’s sucking the souls of the damned into hell.
Most of us don’t get anywhere near a volcano in our lives. However, even for those lucky people who do, it usually doesn’t look this apocalyptic. This woman clearly wasn’t expecting to see anything like this crazy sight, which basically looks like something out of a horror movie.
That is not a net. spiders cocooned these trees to save themselves from a flood.
If you thought that was a mesh net covering the tree, you would be wrong. Because it is something else entirely. A giant flood in Pakistan caused millions of spiders to climb up into the trees to escape the rushing floodwaters. And because these creatures have super survival skills, they knew exactly what to do to protect themselves.
“A friend left a glass bowl outside, and a wasp nest happened to be nearby.”
Sometimes we leave things outside the house, like our shoes or umbrellas, but we don’t expect anything too crazy to happen to them. Well, thanks to this weird occurrence, we probably won’t leave anything outside ever again, at least if we plan on getting it back. Luckily, this person lost their glass bowl coolest and most bizarre way ever.
“I think my tomato is growing tomatoes.”
Aww. There’s honestly something so cute about this tomato growing new tomatoes. But there’s also something kind of freaky about it. Nature is truly unpredictable, so there’s no point in even trying to imagine we know everything. It will always surprise us. As creepy as it is, this phenomenon called vivipary isn’t totally uncommon., so we will all probably see it at some point in our lives.
“The size of a tornado compared to the size of wind turbines.”
It’s pretty common knowledge that tornados are really, really big. Most of us have only seen them in movies though, and have never actually come face-to-face with one in real life (thankfully.) So just for scale, we can see some wind turbines in the bottom right corner, and they look absolutely tiny.
“Found a bird’s nest at work with blue eggs in it. Not sure what type of bird they are from.”
Sometimes we have a boring day at work where nothing really special happens and we’re just waiting to go home. However, that was definitely wasn’t the case for this person, who found an incredible bird’s nest at his workplace, complete with four bright blue eggs. It might be normal to see something like this in the wild, but not so much at the office.
“I opened up an oyster and found an actual pearl!”
We all know that pearls come from the shells of oysters and clams. However, most of us have never ever actually found one, so it almost seems like a myth. Luckily for this girl, her regular old seafood dinner turned out to be an incredibly lucky experience.
“Wasp nest found in the wall last weekend during a remodel.”
Usually, when people decide to remodel their house, they expect to do some painting and maybe a bit of hammering and drilling. What they don’t expect is to find a giant wasp nest just chilling inside their walls. However, that is exactly what happened to this person, and let’s just say it wasn’t a pleasant surprise.
“First low tide after Hurricane Matthew. Just wow.”
This is what the first low tide looks like after Hurricane Matthew, on Fernandina Beach, Florida. It’s pretty much the coolest thing we’ve ever seen and any shell collector’s ultimate fantasy. The hurricane left a treasure trove of beautiful seashells in its wake. This doesn’t make up for the damage it caused, but it is a pretty nice surprise for the residents of this beach town.
“This gecko shedding his skin looks like he’s wearing a hoodie.”
This might seem like a really bizarre photo, but actually, it’s normal for lizards and other reptiles to shed their skin once they start growing too big for it. This person noticed that their lizard looks like they’re wearing a hoodie, and just had to share this hilarious and stunning moment with the internet.
“This 1 in 50 million lobster caught off the coast of Maine.”
Wow. Sometimes we forget how wild and unpredictable nature can be, but other times we get a swift reminder. This often happens when we realize the kinds of crazy sea creatures that live at the bottom of the sea, but sometimes all it takes is one really cool lobster.
some bees in France turned their honey blue after RAIDING an m&m fACTORY TRASHCAN.
This story is pretty bizarre but it just goes to show that nature is full of surprises. A few years ago, some beekeepers in France realized there was something wrong with the honey in the honeycombs. They later realized that the bees had gone dumpster diving in a nearby M&M factory. Clearly, they liked the blue kinds best.
“This crab claw grew another smaller crab claw.”
This is just a small example of how unpredictable nature can be. When this person found a giant red crab washed up on the shore, they obviously went to get a closer look. That’s when they discovered this miracle and genetic wonder. We already knew that the ocean is full of amazing and bizarre things, and this just proves it.
A landslide in Taiwan.
We had to look twice to make sure we were seeing correctly, but yup, that’s real. Sadly, in many places in the world, this is the reality. Things like landslides and earthquakes happen all the time. This photo truly shows the incredible force of nature that cannot be stopped under any circumstances, and will always find a way to surprise us.
Fire ants form a protective island as they float out the Houston flood.
Talk about being a team player. We already knew that ants are some of the strongest creatures in the world, and can carry over 50 times their own body weight (and sometimes much more than that.) However, we didn’t realize exactly how clever they are, but luckily, this photo captures their amazingly smart survival instincts.
“Opened up BBQ for the first time this spring and found some hungry wings.”
This unique find is truly a cool way to start off the season. Most people open up their grill on the first day of spring and find a lot of dust. However, this person started off their weekend BBQ with a seriously wholesome surprise…thankfully they checked inside first. Needless to say, nature is truly full of surprises.
This miner Found a piece of quartz worth $4 million.
Yeah, this is definitely not your ordinary rock. This lucky mine worker is pictured posing next to a giant 2.5-meter chunk of quartz that he uncovered in Arkansas back in 2016. Apparently, it took four days just to remove it from the earth. How much is it worth? Oh not much, just a modest sum of over $3.5 million. No big deal.
“Me and my girlfriend were walking in the woods the other week and saw a rainbow pool for the first time.”
If we were walking through the woods and stumbled upon this sight, we’d probably think we were hallucinating. But somehow, this amazing scene actually happened, and this couple was lucky enough to witness it and snap a picture. Apparently, this unique phenomenon is caused by the sun reflecting the colorful leaves off the water at exactly the right moment.
When you find one for each finger.
Um. We have so many questions about this picture. But unfortunately, we’re probably not going to get any answers. Seriously, how did this person find all of these creatures that look like leaves in one place? This is a pretty incredible sight, even for those of us who aren’t so comfortable holding bugs.
“The pattern of this tree looks like a three-leaf clover.”
It’s always sad when an old tree gets cut down, for whatever reason. However, it’s pretty cool when we can learn something new from them. This lucky person discovered a unique design hidden inside his tree that looks a lot like a three-leaf-clover.
“So I found this turtle just chilling on a beach.”
Most people explore the beach and expect to find some cool shells, and maybe even a crab or two. But this is definitely not a site one would expect to see at their local seashore. This lucky woman stumbled upon a leatherback sea turtle, one of the largest species of turtles, with some weighing around 1,500 pounds.
“Saw these weird foam balls in the river while jogging. Can anyone explain?”
This person was understandably confused about this crazy sight she stumbled upon while out on a jog. Luckily, the internet had some answers for her. Apparently, it can actually be explained by several natural phenomena. The most likely theory is that these weird circles the accumulation of foam, with insects and other objects inside.
“We found this frog all dried up and withered…after a splash of water it came right back to life”
This story shows just how incredible the creatures around us really are. Someone found this frog all dried up and withered outside of the store they work at. When his store manager suggested splashing some water on it, they didn’t know if it would actually work, since the frog seemed pretty much dead. Luckily, nature works in mysterious ways and the frog came right back to life.
When you open your electric box and it looks like this.
Experiencing a power out can be pretty annoying. You have to get dressed, go outside, and check the electric box to see which switches are down. It’s just something that we all have to deal with in life. Luckily though, most of us won’t have to open our electric boxes and find this scenario going on inside of it.
“Well, guess I’ll just let the house burn down then.”
Let’s be real for a second – there is no way any of us would be braver than this person. Because while this might have been their fire alarm before, it is clearly the spider’s fire alarm now. And honestly, he doesn’t look like he’ll be leaving anytime soon. So better grab your most valuable possessions and hope for the best.
“So it turns out sunflowers are actually really, really tall.”
Most of us are pretty sure that we know what sunflowers look like. Either we’ve received a bouquet, or we’ve seen them in a flower shop. Anyway, we definitely know what they look like, right? Actually, we were wrong. We honestly had no idea that sunflowers were basically the giraffes of flowers. Good to know.
“This Strange fish washed up on the shore.”
These people were understandably shocked to see this giant fish wash up on the shore. And we would be too. This pointy-toothed creature is called a sawfish, and apparently, they can span up to 23 feet long. Hopefully, they were able to put it back in the water because it wouldn’t survive for too long on land.
Just a tree eating a post box in London.
We often talk about the fact that our society is taking over nature. However, apparently, it works both ways, and sometimes nature creeps into our territory as well. Clearly, Mother Nature is not a force to be reckoned with, so we should probably back off and give these trees their space. Otherwise, this is the result.
“Behold, our catch of the day.”
These people who went to the beach for a fun and relaxing day definitely had no idea they would stumble upon an insanely large fish. Known as giant oarfish, these massive fish can grow up to 56 feet in length. Since they normally live at the bottom of the ocean, it’s very rare to see them near the shore.
“So My town in Central Texas has a bird problem.”
Upon first glance, you might not notice anything too unusual about this street view but just take another look, because it’s there. Clearly, these birds forgot all about migration season decided to just chill at this local parking lot instead. We can’t blame them, CVS does have really good snacks. But still, this sight is pretty crazy and luckily, this person managed to capture it.
“Gigantic floating mass of ants from Hurricane Harvey.”
If we came across this stream of water, we would probably just assume that those floating brown masses are made of dirt or leaves. Which would be a pretty normal occurrence. However, the truth is that these floating masses are anything but normal, as they are made up of floating ants, who bunched together to survive the storm.
Oh sorry, were you planning to ride that?
Yea, there’s pretty much no chance that these bees are gonna leave this bike anytime soon, even you ask really politely. Unfortunately, this bike is their home now and they honestly look pretty comfortable. So in case you were planning on going somewhere today, you might want to find another travel mode.
“I had no idea bats could get this big. It looks like a toddler dressed as a bat.”
“Hi! there Hope you don’t mind if I drop in!” This bat honestly looks like he just came by to say hello, and might even stay for a cup of tea if we’re offering. Which we are definitely not, because we would probably be halfway to another city by now, searching for a new bat-free apartment. Nice try though!
“Just found the motherlode of lily pads.”
Wow. That lily pad means business. With a majestic name to match its majestic size, the Victoria Regia Amazónica is the largest lily pad in the world. It must have been pretty cool for this man who discovered it floating on the water.
“found this light-bulb washed up on an Australian beach. It was all alive and it floated.”
Life finds a way… that famous line from Jurassic Park never seemed more real than right now. Seriously, this light bulb full of shells is just another reminder of how wild and powerful nature is. Life can literally grow anywhere.
“Apparently Humans Are Not The Only Animals That Drink OTher Animals Milk, Talking To You Vegans”
We often think of animals as being fragile to even the slightest change in their habit. While this is true in many ways, the core building blocks of different animal families are similar enough to allow for some adaptability. Here a seal pup is able to drink the milk of a sheep, the common lactase enzyme that all juvenile mammals have made it possible to digest the other species’ milk.
“Modern tomato vs one grown from 150-yr-old seeds.”
Who’s hungry? The tomato on the left looks pretty much like the average kind we would find in a supermarket. The other tomato however is a totally different story. Clearly, just like us, seeds (and the plants that grow from them) have evolved with time.
“Was about to show my kids that cicada shells aren’t gross and scary when…”
Cicadas are some of the strangest insects around. The remarkable bugs are capable of surviving up to 20 years, one of the longest lifespans for any insect. Moreover, they spent at least 17 years of their lives living underground so they can avoid predators, only spending a fraction of their time above ground.
“Guess We Won’t Be Taking The Stairs”
The Ural mountain mines in Russia are one of the oldest mines in the subcontinent, once being a massive store of gemstones and quartz. Now, however, the mine has been abandoned. As soon as the site was vacated, nature began its efforts in reclaiming the site and returning it to its natural state and beauty.
“Found a pink grasshopper today.”
Um, what? Yup, apparently this is an actual thing. It’s rare enough to see a grasshopper, just chilling casually on your hand. But this one is pink. We can’t really get past that fact, but we’ll just have to move on and accept the fact that nature is ridiculous.
So many bees in the wall that their honey is leaking through an outlet.
This is one of those sights that might not look very scary, but there is clearly something crazy happening behind that power outlet. Of course, bees are amazing for the environment, not just because they produce delicious honey but because they pollinate all our flowers. However, it’s a bit less amazing to have an entire hive in your living room.
Go home trees, you’re drunk.
These trees were spotted in Gryfino, Poland and until today, the cause remains unknown. Sometimes, the best thing to do is just appreciate nature’s weird little quirks and not ask too many questions. And that is exactly what we will do when it comes to this Polish forest full of weirdly flexible trees.
“found a Whole barn full of NOPE!”
Um, sorry, but no. Just no. This situation is not going to work out for us, and we’ll just have to sell the whole barn. Cows and all. And honestly, we’re pretty sure the cows will be happy about leaving because no one in their right minds would agree to stay in this barn for one second longer.
A crocodile with a hard-earned meal
Every year Zebra herds risk their lives to cross rivers and reach fields of grass so they can survive. But there is always the risk of hungry crocodiles. Unfortunately, this zebra was picked off by one and didn’t make it. All we can say it, yikes.
“You guys, how far along in the pregnancy is this rock?”
Reproduction is something that all forms of life go through, including humans, plants, and animals. Well, apparently, this now includes rocks, judging by this person’s cool find. A rock inside of another rock isn’t something you see every day.
“Thankfully my dad found them BEFORE he started mowing”
Oh my. This day almost had a seriously upsetting ending. Luckily, this person’s dad hadn’t noticed this hole in the ground before he started mowing, where he discovered an entire nest of cute baby bunny rabbits. Talk about finding something cool buried in your backyard. Nature is truly full of surprises, and we wouldn’t have it any other way…
“A Hermit crab using a discarded doll head for a shell. THIS IS ALL AROUND NOPE.”
No, this is not an alien or an apocalyptic monster. It’s just a crab who decided to freak the whole neighborhood out by finding himself the creepiest shell ever. Clearly, there were no normal crab shells available, but luckily he found this severed doll head that fit him perfectly. So all’s well that ends well.
Meet the Bismarck Flying Fox. dON’T WORRY, HE ONLY EATS FRUITS.
Found throughout the treetops of New Guinea, this fruit eater is the largest bat on the planet. In other words, he is pretty much the thing that haunts our dreams at night. No offense to him of course. We’re sure he’s just minding his own business and eating berries or something, but that doesn’t make us feel any better about this situation.
“An abandoned hornet’s nest my dad found in his shed.”
Um, why does this photo look more like something out of a horror film than a wasp’s nest? Well, there’s a pretty short story behind it, which this guy decided to share with the internet. “An abandoned hornet’s nest my dad found in his shed that he hadn’t been in for a couple of years. The head is apart of a wooden statue it fused with.” Mystery solved!
“Tip of a needle made by man versus the tip of a bee stinger made by Mother Nature.”
Many people have a fear of needles, and it’s pretty understandable. Who wants sharp things poking into them? Not us, thank you. However, this side-by-side image makes needles look almost harmless compared to the sharp, jagged bee stinger.
“This wasp nest looks like something from a nightmare.”
Um, can we please unsee this? Seriously, is there any chance at all that we can go back to our old lives before we saw this disturbing image? Because that would be just great, thanks. Meanwhile, we’ll just wonder what on earth Mother Nature is thinking, because this is literally the worst way to start the day.
the top of the sheep’s back was not submerged in the water and was eaten by birds
Nature is as beautiful as it is interesting, and a bit creepy, too. At first glance this picture looks like a skeleton on a rock, but if you zoom in a bit, it’s actually a sheep that drowned while trying to cross a small canal. The sheep’s body was not totally submerged in the water so birds had eaten the exposed part of the sheep’s body.
“This tree on my farm in California is pretty intense.”
Um. Do we even want to know what’s going on with this person’s tree? Let’s just say that Mother Nature is totally unpredictable and there’s no point in trying to read her mind. You might have a normal tree one day, but give it a couple of months later and it could turn into a totally different tree. That’s the beauty (and weirdness) of nature!
13 FOOT ALLIGATOR EATING A 10 FOOT BURMESE PYTHON
Alligators are fierce predators, and they’ll pretty much eat any kind of prey depending on size and availability. Pythons are massive snakes that can quite literally eat an alligator whole if given the chance, however, not in this case. The alligator came out victorious with this one.
“Weaver birds’ nests on the top of telegraph and telephone poles in the Namib desert region of southwest Africa.”
If you ever decide to visit the Kalahari Desert in the south of Africa you will probably run into the Sociable Weaver Bird. The birds are called “social” not just because they live in organized colonies, but because they build massive homes out of sticks, grass, and cotton that are home to several other kinds of birds.
“These little shells are so crunchable.”
Not all of us are nature people. Some of us prefer to stay indoors and just admire nature from a distance. However, it’s pretty hard not to fall in love with these colorful little shells, which are somehow all perfectly intact. This person clearly went to the right beach for shell collecting and went home with quite an impressive collection.
“Found this Buttress Tree with extraordinarily large roots in Costa Rica.”
This tree is truly the most incredible natural thing we’ve ever seen, and we’d definitely take a picture with it like this girl did if we saw one. How on earth this tree’s roots grew like this, we have no idea. But it’s just like so many things in nature that we have no answer for. We just have to accept that Mother Nature has no rules and move on.
“Hey, my dad found this 70 Kms out from the NZ coast, anybody know what it is??”
Um, yikes. Clearly, there’s a reason these things only exist at the bottom of the sea, because we don’t think we’d be able to deal with seeing them on a daily basis. However, as creepy looking as it is, it’s also incredibly good for the environment. Salp are planktonic tunicates that remove carbon from the ocean surface, which reduces the amount of CO2 rising into the atmosphere. Basically, they’re very important for breathing!
When people Tell You there are plenty of fish in the sea.
We like to say this saying all the time, especially when we’re trying to comfort someone after a breakup. Well, what we don’t think about is the fact that a lot of the fish look like this. Seriously though, the ocean never fails to surprise us. This is proof that our environment has a huge effect on us, which is why creatures from the bottom of the ocean are so unusual looking.
“When Charlie Came Running Back To Us I Had To Do A Double-Take!”
We never noticed before just how perfectly pine cones and teeth perfectly line up! This just proved the astounding symmetry and interconnectedness of nature – that two totally different things found in totally different places can have such striking similarities.
“Almost walked face-first into it walking up to my door.”
Clearly, this person has been away from home for a little while. Maybe they were on a vacation or staying by a friend’s house. One thing is for sure though: this is definitely not the welcome home they were expecting. Unfortunately, they’re going to have to wait till this spider decides to find a new home because there’s no way anyone would walk through this thing.
“Spotted two tawny frog-mouthed owls on a walk today.”
If you can’t see what this person is talking about in the picture, don’t worry. You’re not alone. These owls are experts at looking exactly like their surroundings, so it’s totally normal that we can’t spot them upon first glance. Look again though, because they’re definitely there. Although, it doesn’t look like they want any company.
“Apparently jumbo squids have teeth in their suction cups.”
When we think of squids, we don’t usually picture their suction cups filled with tiny teeth – but that doesn’t mean their suckers are toothless. Jumbo squids have two tentacles that bear around 200 suckers, each lined with teeth used to grasp their prey.
Gustave the nile crocodile has attained a near-mythical status and is greatly feared by people in the region
Gustave is a large male crocodile living in Burundi. He is estimated to be about 60 years old and weighs around 1 ton. That’s a huge crocodile. No wonder why people living in the region are so afraid of him. Rumor has it that he has claimed the lives of around 300 humans, though the number is hard to prove.
“When Cave Exploring Goes Wrong, It Goes Really Wrong”
Talk about a nightmare. In fact, we had this exact nightmare just the other day – exploring an unknown cave system, crawling through cramped dark tunnels not knowing what’s around the corner only to find ourselves face to face with one of nature’s most formidable predators, the grizzly bear.
“Found this rare Nokia fossil today.”
Um, how on earth did this happen? Since we all remember Nokia phones, this is actually pretty hilarious. However, if someone found this phone 20 years from now, they might actually have no idea what it is and would probably put in the Museum of Natural History. And maybe it belongs there because it’s pretty crazy that the ground fossilized this phone.
When you’re trying to blend in with the crowd.
This gecko clearly doesn’t want to stand out too much and just wants to blend in with the rest of the neighborhood. Maybe he’s trying to avoid his friends, or maybe he just feels like becoming one with nature. Who knows what his reasons are. Luckily, he looks exactly like a dead leaf, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Hurricane Ian once again showed us just how powerful mother nature is.
Category 4, monster storm, Hurricane Ian hit Florida’s west coast on September 28, 2022. The hurricane caused major damage in the sunshine state: its ferocious 150 mph winds left 1.05 million Floridians without power and so far has taken the life of 83 people in Florida and 4 others in North Carolina, although that number is sadly expected to change soon.
“I think this tree swallowed a bench.”
This bench was probably a perfect place for couples to come and have a romantic date. However, that is clearly no longer the case, thanks to this tree who literally swallowed it up. Maybe he was tired of seeing mushy couples sitting under his branches. Or maybe he was just hungry. Either way, problem solved.
“found two baby bats rolling on my deck this morning. I had never seen a baby bat before”
Well, if you guys have never seen a baby bat before, here it is! Who knew baby bats were so cute. Even though this tiny little critter makes us say “aww,” they should be handled very carefully due to rabies. That’s because rabies aren’t so cute.
“hurricane irma made the shore water recede leaving a mantaee wondering whats going on.”
Unfortunately, one of the sad and devastating parts of a hurricane is when animals and their habitats become displaced as well. This manatee was stranded during the hurricane and fortunately citizens of Florida came together to help save it.
A python unhinging its jaw and eating an entire wallaby whole
One of the difficult things about mother nature are pictures like this. We know it’s a natural part of the animal kingdom, but, still shocking when you see it up close and personal. This is a python that was spotted eating a wallaby. These pythons are predators in the wild and are able to unhinge their jaws in order to swallow large animals like this. Mother nature going wild!
“Wanted to ride my bike today. Oh well.”
Yea, never mind. This guy can forget about riding his bike for the next couple of weeks, or maybe forever. Because honestly, this is not his bike anymore, it’s the bees’ bike. So until they decide to give it back to him, he’s going to have to take the bus. Let’s just say this is probably not how he thought he was going to start the day.
“This Poor Doggie Got Stuck In A Tree And Was Turned Into A Mummy”
What an incredibly horrible way to go, stuck in a tree with no escape. This is how ghost stories are made, with a tragic story and a terrible visual to go along with it. Just goes to show that even fetch can be a deadly game, it’s all fun and games until you get stuck in a tree and turned into a demonic mummy.
This is what we call a perfectly timed photo.
The ocean is a lot more powerful than we imagine. When these people realized there was a huge wave coming in their direction, they figured they’d have to run – and somehow, a passerby managed to take this perfectly-timed picture of the exact moment when that happened.
this huntsman spider is horrifyingly huge.
If you have arachnophobia, look away. This massive spider decided to make an appearance on the windowsill. Not the kind of surprise you want to see first thing in the morning. Huntsman spiders are found in Australia and are notorious for entering cars and homes. Yikes!
this canadian moose didn’t get into a fight, he’s just sheddiing its antlers.
There are so many things about mother nature that we have no idea about. Moose shedding their antlers was one of them. This photo looks pretty daunting, but turns out that moose and deer’s shed their antlers in the winter and it’s a painless process.
“My friend came across this while hiking in New Mexico.”
Mother nature is a beautiful thing, but sometimes we stumble upon the unexpected. While hiking in New Mexico someone saw a deer that got stuck in between large rocks and unfortunately couldn’t manage its way out. Oh deer, indeed.
an omothymus spider as big as a head that was spotted in malaysia.
This isn’t for the arachnophobes, but imagine taking an evening walk and stumbling across this eight-legged giant. Thanks, but no thanks. This is a female Omothymus spider that’s also known as the Malaysian earthtiger tarantula. We understand where its name earthtiger comes from because this arachnid is the tiger of all tarantulas.
when you look outside the living room window and realize you’re living in an aquarium.
This is definitely no laughing matter. Hurricane Ian has swept over Florida and has caused enormous damage to people’s property and homes. But, really though, what a sight to see first thing in the morning. They probably weren’t expecting to wake up with a life-size aquarium outside their house.
What do you do when you see a flying fox in your backyard? (The Philippines)
Most of us step outside in the morning to hear the birds chirping and feel the sun shining on our faces. But unfortunately, for this unlucky (or lucky) person, that was definitely not the way their morning went when they stepped outside and found a giant bat just casually hanging from their roof.
A tsunami breeching an embankment and flowing into the city of Miyako in Japan.
Back in 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit northern Japan. Then, shortly after, the city of Miyako on the Japanese northeastern coast was flooded due to a tsunami. Unfortunately, as we can see in the picture above, nature can be quite scary sometimes.
When mother nature drinks three red bulls.
Clearly, Mother Nature had just a little too much fun on St Patrick’s day and decided that one rainbow was not enough. So this is the result. It’s pretty crazy to even see one rainbow in the sky, so you can just imagine how people reacted to this unusual sight of 8 rainbows in the sky. Definitely Instagram worthy, that’s for sure.
Birds pecking at this giraffe aggravate a viral infection
Kruger National Park in South Africa is home to a population of giraffes with bumpy skin caused by papillomatosis, a skin disease caused by the papillomavirus. The bumps are often more prevalent on the giraffes’ legs and necks, areas that are easily reached by oxpecker birds that feed on ticks and other parasites on the giraffes’ skin. While the symbiotic relationship between the birds and the giraffes is beneficial, it can aggravate the papillomatosis and cause discomfort for the giraffes. However, the disease is generally self-limiting and does not pose a significant threat to the health of the animals. The bumpy giraffes are a testament to the unique and diverse wildlife found in Kruger National Park.
Extreme weather made it rain fish in Honduras
The phenomenon known as “raining fish” or “animal rain” may seem like something out of a science fiction movie, but it actually has occurred in various parts of the world throughout history. One such event happened in Honduras in 2020. This phenomenon is locally known as “Lluvia de Peces” or “Rain of Fish.” According to legend, the first recorded rain of fish occurred in the late 1800s, when a Catholic priest in the region prayed for a miracle to end a drought. Soon after, a heavy rain showered the town with fish, which were then used to feed the population. The scientific explanation for the rain of fish is believed to be related to weather patterns and water spouts. These water spouts can lift fish from rivers or other bodies of water and carry them through the atmosphere before depositing them back on land.
